Just a quick mix I was messn’ around with today.  It is a witty statement of sorts.  Well, it makes me laugh.  What song should I mix this in or out of to keep the witticism?

“Apache” is my THROWBACK TRACK for Thursday.  Apparently the o.g version comes from The Shadows.  I will be honest I’ve never heard the o.g version.  Most know The Sugarhill Gang’s version, a b-boy classic.  Old school but still a favorite.  ”Apache” had a strong resurgence after being the headlining track on Fatboy Slims’ “On the Floor of the Beat Boutique”.  Then it found it’s way on to mix tapes, mash-ups, and dance club mixes to numerous to mention.  My “Apache” THROWBACK TRACK is a hybrid of the The Sugarhill Gang’s version with Missy Elliot’s “We Run This” produced by Rio Beats. Twistn’ on a classic and adding somethin’ fresh.  Must be played loud.

THE VIBRATORS - PURE MANIA

image
LADIES BRINGING OUT SOMETHING THAT TICKLES. THE VIBRATORS! YOU BROKE MY HEART OFF OF PURE MANIA. THEY HAVE THAT RAW BRATTY SOUND IN THE VEIN OF THE RAMONES. IF THIS WERE A MIX TAPE SUBSEQUENTLY YOU’D HEAR BEAT ON THE BRAT. THIS ALBUM CAME OUT IN 1977 THREE YEARS AFTER PUNKS YEAR ZERO IN NY. I AM GUESSING THEY TOOK A QUE FROM THE CBGB SCENE TO FORM THIER STYLE AND SOUND. JUST CHECK OUT THIER OUTFITS ON THE BACK COVER. THEY LOOK THE EPITOME OF NY COOL. THEY MAY NOT BE INNOVATORS BUT THEY ARE VIBRATORS. THEY DO WHAT THEY DO WELL. “WE VIBRATE”. THIS ALBUM HAS BEEN LISTED AS ONE OF THE 50 BEST PUNK ALBUMS OF ALL TIME. EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM IS WORTH VIBRATING TO. THE BEAUTY OF THIS SONG IS THAT IT SAYS SO MUCH BY SAYING ONE THING OVER AND OVER. IT’S GONE BEYOND HEARTACHE INTO A SPASM OF AWKWARD RAGE. YEH-YEH YEH-YEH YEH-YEH YEH

SEX PISTOLS - HERE WE GO AGAIN

image
MY FAV SEX PISTOL SONG, “HERE WE GO AGAIN” OFF OF WE’VE CUM FOR YOUR CHILDREN.  IT HAS A PUB ROCK FEEL TO IT.  NOT OF THE DR. FEELGOOD TRADITION (IT LACKS THAT SPLASH OF GRITTY SOUL).  THE FEEL EMANATES FROM THE MERE LOCALE OF THE GENRE.  A PUB!  A PUB FULL OF ILL-CLAD DRUNKS BELTING AT THE GRAPE, SWAYING THIER ELBOWS LIKE PIRATES, SOPPING THE FLOOR WITH THIER PINTS, CAPTIVE IN A BRAY SING-SONG OF LINES EMPHASIZED IN UNISON “WHAT DID YOU WANNA ASK/THE SUN SHINES OUT MY ASS”.  THE WORKING CLASS PUB ROCK FEEL.

IF YOU LIKE THIS TRACK CHECK OUT THE PROFESSIONALS.  FORMER PISTOLS PAUL COOK AND STEVE JONES WROTE “HERE WE GO AGAIN” AS WELL AS OTHER GREAT PISTOLS SONGS AND LATER WENT ON TO FORM THE PROFESSIONALS.

Bicycle Race: Queen-Off

It was never established who won the Queen-Off so post your thoughts.  Post any media as well.  This is how it all went down.  El Vincente kicked it off with Somebody to Love. Despite the high difficulty level of this song El Vincente held his own and sustained those long high notes.  Then Ruby stepped out of her comfort zone and busted out with Another One Bites the Dust.  A perfect fit for Ruby’s style.  Nik picked the crowd pleaser We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions.  As always he worked the stage, the tables, and even the chairs.  April and Byanka did there best to keep up with Bohemian Rhapsody.  Then to finish it off Beau and Nik did Under Pressure.  Beau was David Bowie with a glass of Jack and a splash of water and Nik was Freddy Mercury (He has to be he sports the mustache).

The drive to the Caravan last night, after work, was all green lights and Cure songs.

My sister burnt me a copy of an unplugged set a while ago and I’ve been listening to it since Saturday with windows down and Robert Smith crooning into the cool night air. After maneuvering into an empty…

“Rainbow Jim” rockn’ the key tare is what makes this clip so flippn’ funny.  Then add “Metalhead” singing Dream On-Aerosmith and we’ve reached the absurd. Never a lack of show at the Caravan. I pulled this from the old Facebook group for F-Off Karaoke.

idolwise:

The Caravan is probably one of my first serious places for karaoke. It’s not fancy or trendy, or even that ironic hipster type of cool. It’s just there. I hear the city of San Jose has been trying to shut it down forever. Well it sure as hell hasn’t happened yet but when that day comes I’m moving…
